Firstly, let us ponder a scenario where we were born before the year 2000. At that time, the world had just emerged from a tumultuous era of division. The concept of the internet had only just been discovered, and smart devices were non-existent. People couldn't connect with their loved ones through video calls as we can today. The technologies that presently simplify and enhance our lives were merely figments of imagination back then. Envision yourself lying in a comfortable bed without a cell phone or any electronic device that you currently possess. How uncomfortable would that be? You wouldn't even have the ability to read this blog, and I wouldn't have the opportunity to write it.

Now, let us shift our imagination to another scenario where we were born after the year 2010. In simple terms, during this decade, you would be surrounded by technology, with an abundance of smart laptops and cell phones. Of course, you would start using these devices after a few years, not immediately upon birth. However, during that period, every person around you would already be equipped with a smartphone. From those years until the present, every new-born child is given a smartphone to keep them quiet. Rarely do we witness children playing outside with their friends; instead, their interactions revolve around online games (though this may not be the case in rural areas). Sooner or later, the joyful noise of children playing may fade away from villages, towns, and everywhere else. Furthermore, pollution pervades the environment, leaving no peace of mind and burdening everyone with stress.

Now, let us stop imagining and instead recall our own memories. Reflect on the year of your birth, when technologies were still evolving. The environment was pristine and charming, devoid of pollution. We spent quality time playing offline with our friends in the playground. We engaged in games like marbles, hide and seek, bablet, rubbers, and collecting cards. We tore the covers of our notebooks to have fun. We jumped rope, played football, and, speaking for myself, mainly played cricket during my childhood.

We also cherished watching our favourite cartoons on television, such as Tom and Jerry, Motu Patlu, Bheem, Krishna, Little Singham, Scooby-Doo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ninja Hattori, Doraemon, Shinchan, Perman, Pikachu, and the list goes on. We had to wait for hours to watch these beloved shows. We patiently endured advertisements, if you remember. Essentially, we had to wait for everything, which increased our attention span and enabled us to remain focused on a particular task. However, nowadays, due to platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook Reels, both children and adults have had their attention spans affected. We desire everything to be fast and do not wish to watch advertisements, instead opting to switch to another video until the ads conclude. Regrettably, we have lost our valuable patience.

Now, you may argue that the activities undertaken by children of the 2000s were also enjoyed by those born before that era. They, too, watched movies and cartoons, and played with their friends, right? Well, if you have older siblings, take a look at them. I believe you possess an equal or even greater amount of knowledge than your elders, who are much older than you. This is because you were fortunate enough to receive a smartphone at the right time. Yes, you experienced the joy of childhood while simultaneously enjoying the privileges of technology, unlike children born before the 2000s who did not have access to such advancements, or those born after the 2000s who missed out on the simple joys of childhood that we were able to relish.
